RESULT STILL DOUBTFUL. BEEBY PARTY WIPED OUT. j (By Cable.—Press Association—Copyright.} t SYDNEY, December 8. j *j One of the surprises of the election ■ j is the defeat of Mr Levien, tho "father , of the Assembly," for Tamworth, which, as an Independent, he had represented for thirty-three years. . He was even beaten out of the necessary second ballot. With absent votes still to count, Mr Hail, Minister of Justice, has a . majority of 72 at Enmore; a second ballot, however, will be necessary. Mr McGarry (Labour) is now safe for the Murrumbidgee seat. Altogether there will be fourteen fcecond ballots. The Socialist and the Beeby Progressive Parties were completely wiped ' out. Mx Beeby, accepting the inevitable, declared he was now convinced there was no placo for his party in the House. Corrected figures in connexion with the first ballot make the result as under:— Liberal (leading or elected) 44 Labour ... ... ... *43 Independent ... ... 3 The "Sydney Morning Herald" pre- , diets that the final state of the parties after the second ballots will bo: — Liberal ... ... ... 45 Labour ... ... ... 41 Independents ... ... 4 The Premier, Mr Holman, expresses satisfaction with the result so far. He anticipates that Labour will finish the j fight with a good working majority, Mr Wade is hopeful of capturing three seats from Labour, thus securing a majority.
