Mr J. C. Cnsack, of Wellington, formerly a Christchurch resident,.is at present in Christchurch on business m connexion with the New .Zealand Amateur Athletic Council. He goes on to Dunodin on Thursday.
Our Wellington correspondent states that Mr W. W. Samson, deputy-regis-trar of the Supreme Court, Christchurch, has been appointed deputyregistrar of patents at Wellington. ■ Mr H. T. McCardell, chief draughtsman in the Lands and Survey Department, has resigned.
A Wellington telegram states that Mr Leon Colien, local secretary of the Trinity College.of Musio, London, has received advice from Mr Henry St. George, who has just completed his tour of the Dominion, conducting practical examinations at the various centres, that, he has awarded the Governor's medalj which goes to the best associate pianist in New Zealand, to Miss Amy Gilligan, of the Oamaru centre;
A meeting of the Presbyterian Church Board ,of Property was held at Dunedin yesterday, to consider applications for the position of Professor of Natural Philosophy in the Otago University, and that of Professor of Mental and Moral Philosophy. Twenty applications were received for tho chair of Natural Philosophy, and the Board decided to recommend Dr. Jack, lecturer on Physics in Belfast University, for appointment. For the chair of Mental and Moral Philosophy, ten applications were .received, and the Board recommended Dr. Frank W. Dunlop (Sydney) for appoiutment. A Press Association message says that Dr. Dunlop is a son of the late Dr. Dunlop, who was for many years professor in tlio Theological Hall of the Presbyterian Church in Dunedin. The recommendations will be forwarded to the Synod of Otago and Southland for concurrence.
