CITY COUNCIL.
LAST NIGHT'S MEETING. The Christchurch City Council met last night, when thoro were present: — The Mayor (Mr H. Holland) and Crs. W. H. Cooper, J. R. Hayward, A. Morton, Geo. Scott, H. Hunter, J. McCullough, W. Millar,'F. Burgoyne, A. S. Taylor, A. Williams, H. D. Acland, H. B. Sorensen, A. M. Loasby, and H. J. Otley. An apology for absence was received from Cr. McCombs. Applications were received from the local picture theatres for permission to give entertainments on Christmas Day. Permission was granted. The clerk of the JL'aparua County Council wrote advising tnat iiis Council objected to pay anything towards the cost of upkeep of Park roads, as the roads were several miles outside of the county boundary. Tho letter was referred to tho Works Committee. The' secretary of the Woolston Band Carnival invited the Mayor and Council to be present at the opening of their carnival on Monday, December 22nd. The Mayor said he had promised to open the carnival. The invitation was accepted. Letters from Redpath and Son and Smith and Woodbury, relative to duty on electric line poles comprised in their contract, were referred to the Electricity Committee for report. The' Water Supply Committee reported that the new pumping plant had been erected. The pumps would easily throw 75,000 gallons per hour, but were being kept down to 68,000 gallons por hour, that being the rate required to keep the town supplied. The installation now comprised a fine and powerful plant, with which all emergencies could oe met during the coming summer. A careful fuel test would be made at an early date. The total number of water connexions was now 11,288. and the total for the month was 46, eight being builders' supplies, which would'be permanent services as soon as the,buildings were completed. A considerable number of new consumers would require to be supplied during the summer. The report was adopted. Regarding the winning lnnd street, the Works Committee , reconurenfioa that the Cruncil should pay ££9 2s 6d, being half the cost of re-crading ,and dedication. The recommendation ' was approved of. Cγ. Bnrgoyne proposed a motion that the Water Supply' Committee should report on the question of staffing the pumping station. The motion was carried. Leave of absence was granted Cγ. Dent until the first meeting after the New Year
