ARREST OF MRS PANKHURST.
HUMOROUS POLICE TACTICS.
("Tini«*"-Sy<ln«y "Sun" Special CabW.)
LONDON, December 5
The police carried out the arrest of Mrs Pankhurst on the arrival of the Majestic rather humorously. They issued passes to a number of journalists and suifragettes, permitting them to go out in tho tender which was to bring back tho passengers and mails. The journalists were elated at thinking they were going to witness the arrest, but when the tender was within a mile of the Majestic a boat approached it with a police inspector aboard, who informed the White Star officials that they must not proceed until a signal was given. Tho White Star officers received the intimation with mock indignation, and the tender waited for half an hour, effectually screened from the Majestic by two warships, apparently with a set purpose. The police boat was then seen steaming away towards Devonport, and tho tender was allowed to approach tho liner.
Tho passengers aboard tho Majestic related that at dinner time on tho previous evening Mrs Pankhurst was advised to make tho most of matters, but smiled dismally.
