SOCIAL-DEMOCRATIC RALLY
A "rally" on behalf of the SocialDemocratic candidate, Mr McCombs, was held in Victoria 6quare on Saturday night, and was attended by a large crowd. Mr Hiram Hunter presided, and in the course of his remarks in opening the meeting, eaid that the special constables were giving an indication that they were going on strike. They expected to get 10s per day, and it was reported that they were to get Bs. It proved that the Employers' Association, like the leopard, could not change its spots, and could not get away from lie desire to lower wages.
Mr James Thorn gave a lengthy address, in which he dealt with the strike and,also with political questions. Mr McCombs gave a political address on the lines of the address he gave, at the opening of the election campaign.. Mx Morgan Williams reported on a tour of the Peninsula that ho and Mr W. T. Mills (national organiser of the Social-JOemocratic Party) had made, and apologised for tho absence of Mr Milk, who had been announced as one of the speakers. * . -
Cheers wore given for Mr Williams and for Mr McCombs.
No motion was submitted to the gathering.
Dr. Thacker has replied to the Bible-itt-Schools' League expressing himself in favour of submitting the question of Bible-in-Schools to a referendum.
