STRIKE PICKETS AND SAILORS.
AN EXCITING INCIDENT. (PRESS USSOCIATIOX TZLXCBAU.) AUCKLAND, December 7. There was an exciting incident at the railway station preVious to the dopar-
tnre of the Main Trunk express last night. Twelve seamen or firemen were leaving for Foxton, apparently to work a vessel there. A strong party of strike pickets assembled arid surrounded the carriage containing the workers. A lively Uare-up followed and the guards "and porters, on hearing the disturbance, ejected the pickets from the carriages to the accompaniment of jeers and menacing behaviour. The police were summoned and on a constable appearing he was received with hooting. Ho pushed his way through the crowd and ordered the pickets off the station, and when ho met resistance, used some force. Great excitement prevailed, the strikers keeping up a running fire of taunts, and hooting the seamen and the constable. It is stated that a few blows were exchanged but no one was seriously injured.
