"Mrs Pankhurst, Mrs Panklvurst, don't you land; the cats are after you," ehriekod a boat-load of spray-soddon suffragettes, alongside the- Majestic, shortly after noon. They were too late, however, for an hour previously a polico boat conveying Inspector Riley, Cliief-Constablo Sowerby, four detectives, and a wardress, left Devonport, proceeding three miles out, and mot tho incoming liner. She anchored whilst tho polico party clambered aboard. Mrs Pankhurst, who was in her stateroom, was notified that the police wanted her on tho upper deck. Sho sent an emphatic refusal. Inspector Riley and Mt Sowerby were conducted to her cabin, and Mr Sowerby ordered Mrs Pankhurst to accompany them. Sho refused, adding, "I am not known to you." Inspector Riley then eaid, "But you know mc." Mrs Pankhurst again vehemently protested, asking to see tho warrant, but was informed that, being under parolo, a warrant was unnecessary. After another refusal, Inspector*Riley arrested her and handed her over to tho wardress. The passengers cheered the party on. descending tho ladder. THE AMERICAN MOVEMENT. WOMEN APPEAR BEFORE HOUSE. WASHINGTON, December 4. Suffragists appeared before the Houso Rules Committee, asking for the formation of a House Committee to deal with the whole question of women's suffrage throughout tho United States. Opponents to the proposal wero also heard. They, declared that working women wero likely to loso more than they, would gain through the suffrage Tho operation of women's suffrage in other countries, including New Zealand and Australia, was quoted in favour of tho proposal.
