- ANOTHER MAN CHARGED.* FURTHER REMANDS GRANTED. The Customs cases camp again before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.,'at the Magistrate's Court yesterday, when Christopher Robert Smith was charged conjointly with - James Anderson Campbell, with on Septembe." ' 12th, ai Christcburch, stealing £12 12s, the property of Hicks and Co. Mr C. Stringer appeared for accused. Upon the application of Mr T. W. Stringer, K.C., Crown Prosecutor, a remand ,was granted till Tuesday, bail being allowed, self £250 and two sureties of £250 each. Samuel John McCormack, was charged with at Christchurch, during the last six months, conspiring with Hugh Lawton Owen and James A. Campbell, to defraud H.M. Customs. Mr A T. Donnelly, who appeared for prisoner, applied for bail. Hie Worship said that the surety had stated that ho went surety for accused under a misapprehension, and he was not willing to continue as such. Mr Donnelly said he understood the surety was now willing to continue. Chief-Detective Bishop said accused had been drinking. His Worship commented on the fact of accused drinking with these charges ■ hanging over his head. He -was willing to take the same sureties again on condition that accused _ reported himself every day to the police. The application for. sureties was adjourned till noon. • Bail was allowed self in £250, and two sureties of £250 each, or one of £500. ■ ■
