George Edward Westlake, a young man, pleaded • guilty to the following charges committed on .October 6th, at Chi-istchurch: (1) Stealing from the dwelling of Cornelius Crimmins, one gold chain and pendant and one gold watch-guard, valued at £10, the property of Cornelius Crimmins. (2) Stealing a double gold ' watchchain valued at £5, a gold-mounted ribbon guard valued at £3 and £2 in money, ofvthe total value of £10, the property of Christopher Crimmins; (3) Stealing one silver watch valued at £5, a silver watch-chain valued at 17s-6d; and 5s in money, the property of William.Sandford, (4) Stealing a watch-chain valued at 12s 6d, the property of Herbert Albert ■Starr:- •' •> '■ '' • ' (5) Stealing* a silver watch-chain, a silver locket, and A a nickel sovereign case, Of the total value of £1 ss, the property of James Torpey • .Chief-Detective Bishop said accused had-started a few months back and gone right through tho Dominion obtaining goods on false pretences. He was at present serving a term of eight months imposed on him in Wellington as"* a concurrent sentence on offences committed in addition to the - present ones. On the first three charges accused was sentenced to four months' imprisonment, and on tho other, two to three month?' imprisonment, tho whole to be concurrent, and to take effect at the end of the present sentence accused i 3 serving. " REMANDED. Edward Thomas Conway was remanded till Wednesday on charges of drunkenness, and stealing from the dwel-ling-house of David Beattie at Burwood the sum of £6 10s and a purse valued at 2s, the "property of David Beattie. Senior-Sergeant Mathieson said accused \ was going under the name of "Conway" but his real name was "Thomas." Archibald Stewart was remanded til] December 12th, bail being allowed, self in £100 and one surety of £100 on a charge of failing to make provision for an unborn child. -
