WHAT THE CHURCHES ARE DOING.

NEWS AND NOTES FOR PULPIT AND P^flS

PRAYER AS A "SHORT CUT." Preaching at C-arrs lane on unanswered prayer, the Rev. Sidney M. Berry said a great deal of light was thrown on tho matter by a study of Christ's treatment of the request of James and John, that they should sit at His sido in His glory. Tho reply was an offer of a cup of suffering, and to somo of our prayers tho reply is similar; a courso of preparation, which will fit us for tho giits wo crave. It is not always easy to see tho connexion with our prayers, but tho connexion is there. Too many of us regard prayer merely as a "short cut"; an easy means of getting things that ought to be worked and strivon for.
