The King George V. Seamen's Institute at LytteHon continues to bo well pat:onised by seamen visiting the Port. On Thursday a concert was given to a large audience of seamen. Songs and duets by Mra Gilmore and Miss Clark were well rendered, and appreciated as also was a violin eolo by Signalman, Berxal of the H.M.S. Pyramus, comic son"-s were also given by MessTS Downs and Latto, of the- R.M.S. Corinthic. The Institute is now urgently in need of book 9, etc., which could be sent to the Institute or called for if desired. The New Zealand Utility Poultry Club mot on Tuesday, Air G. Willis (president) presiding. The caretaker reported that the highest totals for November were:—Messrs Yerrall Bros., White Leghorns, 153 eggs, Dominion Poultry Plant 151, and Mr W. Mercer 149. Mesare G. Willis and T. Fazackerley presented a report on tho competition for the month, 'and Messrs J. W. Green and T. Wood we-e elected the visiting committee for December. After a lengthy discussion it was resolved that the Government be invited to aDpoint an officer (or officers) of tho Agricultural Department to confer with the trus>te*a and executive of the club relative to drafting conditions, etc., with t> view to the Government supervising, the work of the egg-laying competitions, such conditions to bo submitted to a subsequent meeting. The Christ-church Poultry, Pigeon, end Canary Club met on Thursday. Mr H. Beardslcy (president) occupied the chair, and about thirty members wero present. The i club delegate to tho annual meeting of the Association reported that tho championship show for 19M had been allotted to Christchurch, and June 18th, 19th, and 20th wee the dates appointed for the exhibition. It was resolved that tho appointment of judges be made at tho next meeting. A meeting of the committee of the Society fox the Protection of Women and Children was held on Thursday, Mrs A. C. ■ Sandstein presiding. One new member was elected. Tho treasurer's financial abatement waa received. It waa decided that the Rev. W. A, Sinclair be authorised to sign all cheques for the Society in the absence of Canon Burton. Caaoe dealt with since Inst meeting were then considered and- tho meeting adjourned.
