A meeting oi tie'Sumner Gala Committee waa held on Wednesday, Mr G. Brewer presiding. It waa resolved to engage the Sumner Brass Band for the occasion for the stun of -10 10s. The matter of; fireworks was held over. The vacant eectic—s near .they ■' Cave: Rock Hotel have been aeouied by- the committee for aide-shows, etc. A deputation ■was appointed to wait upon- tho _r_mw»jr Board in regard to concessions. A meeting of the general committee of the- Canterbury Section of the Public Service Association waa held- on Wednesday night, the president, Mr H. L. Cordery, in the chair. A vote of condolence was parsed to the relative*i of the lato Mr F. C. Morgan, a member of the committee, who was kilkd in a motor accident on the I—ncol— road recently. ■■ A letter was received from the "Wellington executive Notifying that owing to the strike the publishers of tbe "Public Service Journal" would bo. unable to bring tho first issue out for December, but it waa hoped that it would be published early in January. Tbe executive also forwarded the replies of the Publio Service Commissioners to the remits laid before thrm by a deputation fro—i the Public Service Conference held in Wellington recently. There were altogether fifty-two re- ' mite, and the answers to the most of them were to the effect that ; the -litters would receive further consideration.
