GLOBE THEATRE.
-"Tie Old Colonel's Gratitudo." the star drama screened at the Globe Theatre yesterday, contains quite . a good plot. A wealthy , widow, Mrs Stafford, is infatuated with, and wishes to marry, Robert Albroth, a somewhat unscrupulous' city man of fascinating -personality. T__..is,much.ag_inst r thQ. wishes of her father and sou, who instinctively distrust, the smooth-spoken Albroth, and truly surmise that .he is only attracted by Mrs Stafford s wealth. A little later, Albroth tries to make a match between Harry and'his daughter Edith. Harry's heart is already bestowed on Mary Palmer, tho daughter of a struggling bookkeeper: Though ignorant of his true social position, he is looked upon as a friend by tho whole family, including the grandfather, Sergeant Palmer, whose ' chief delight is playing at soldiers with his _ma„ grandson. In sore need of money, Mr Palmer borrows some from a moneylender, who is-no other than Albroth carrying on the business under an assumed name. Palmer, is unable to pay the exorbitant interest, and, in their extremity, the family '■' confide in Harry, who promises to try and help them. Harry tells his mother, who learns her fiance's true character. In a stormy scene she discharges Palmer's liabilities, and indicates to the chagrined Albroth her opinion'of him, and his business. Supporting films in tho new programme are "Retribution" (drama), and his Guardian" (comedy), "With the Aid of Phrenology" (comic), and the latest "Gaumont Graphic." •
