WELLINGTON ITEMS.
(SP_Cl__ to "thb press.") WELLINGTON, December 4. The new Watersiders' Union ha© a membership of 1840. Tho new Drivers' Union is 2 ( JO strong. Robert Campbell, a special constable, broke his leg through his horse slipping on the wood street blocks. The Union Company announces that it expects to be able to take ordinary cargo to Sydney in next week's direct boat from Wellington. Tho majority of the' crew on th© Aorangi, mie to-morrow from Sydney, will sign off on arrival, but a new crew of qualified A.B.s and firemen is waiting ready to take the vessel from here to San Francisco. The Tahiti, which arrived from San Francisco to-day, sails for Sydney on Saturday, taking only passengers from New Zealand. The total strike funds received direct at the head oinco of the Red Federation is below £2000, including £150 from Australia. This excludes money sent direct to Striko Commif/tees. No curious crowd collocted in the
street near the Magistrate's Court today when the strike leaders were due to" appear, and there were no special constables or regulars stationed in the street. The only precaution was a constable at the door of the Court refusing admittance except on business. The Reds' official organ is again trying to terrorise the railwayman by applying to them the term "Scab. It de_cribes tho railway workers' loyalty to the public as* nothing else but "scabbery, and alleges that "they are cowards who work" and hide behind the superannuation scheme."
