BOYCOTT AGAIN EXTENDED. MAUNGANUTS" SCRATCH FIREMEN. ___ISTENCE OF FRICTION DENIED. (Received December 4th, 7.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, December 4. The wharf labourers have again ignored the conference's resolution to
confine the boycott to New Zealand boats. No.labour waa available to-day for the Tofua and Karitane. The Union Company thereupon interviewed - th© representatives of tho union, but ' th© latter were not in a position to ©ay anything. The company, in order to giro all possible assistance, withdrew the whole of their staff and officers from the wharf. The company reckoned that this would remove any chance of. th© use of the "blackleg" and "*c_b" excuso. -:'■''.".-:' The Tofua has still a lot of cargo on - board, and is waiting to receive -more cargo for th© islands. Tho __aritatn» has a cargo of Tasmonian potatoes. .It is reported that the Maunganui's scratch firemen, numbering 37, consisting mostly of professional men,' intimated to tho company that they in- *• tended to take three days' holiday in order to recuperate after their solidwork, also that they declined to change .' to the Manuka. -The company, however, deny the existence of any friction, -. and declare that th© application for; a : holiday was willingly granted. The company says it is not necessary --" to' take the Maunganui to Newcastle, sinco she has sufficient coal for three _. , .trips. Tha decision to despatch" th© Maunganui for New Zealand on Satur- - day instead of the Manuka'is due to the fact that; the passenger list is heavy.
