STRIPED SUITS ABOLISHED.
CLASSIFICATION. OF CONVICTS.

The authorities of San Quentin gaol, California, where the average population is two thousand convicts, have abandoned striped prison uniforms, and are substituting plain blue sergo suits.
The convicts wero assembled in the courtyard to watch the burning of tho old suits, the prison band playing until all wero consumed
Six suits were kept, and will bo reserved for incorrigibles* sentenced to solitary confinement.
The prisoners are now divided into throo classes—incorrigibles, those only behaving well compulsorily, nnd the honour class, consisting of men aware of their wrong-doing and anxious for reformation.
