SWIMMING.

THE NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION.

The twenty-fourth annual meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association was held last evening, Mr G. Harris presiding o-ver a ■ fair attendance. The annual report stated that a season of exceptional activity haa to bo recorded. The Association , now consisted of nine centiea and eighty-one clubs, en increase of nine clubs, but the actual increase had been twice that number, as seven clube formed late in tho season had applied for affiliation through the Auckland Centre and the Hokitika. and Rosa Clubs were afnltated through the resuscitated Westland Centre. The number of school children's certificates issued reached a total of 1033, double that of tho previous season. . Life-saving had been etcadily increasing, and the aims and objects of the Royal Life-saving Society had been brought prominently before the public. The newly-formed Dominion executive had been the means of linking up the head centres. During tho season three Australian swimmers, Me33re Solomons, Hay, and Rcddington visited New Zealand, and competed at carnivals at Christchurcb, Wellington, and N&pic Tho tour was very successful and the exhibitions of swimming and life-3aving given by the team were of a highly educational nature. The Council wns negotiating with tho AraaVeur Swimming Union of Australia, for a visit to tho Dominion of tho Hawaiian swimmer, Kahanamoku, the Olympic eprint champion and world's record holder. The New Zealand championship meeting was conducted very successfully by the Wanganui Cent:*, and tho swimming in all branches waa superior to that of previous years Tho Yaldhurst championship shield for the greatest number of points in the champ'onship events wae.won by the Auckland Centre, and tho WigTam challenge shield fox life caving by the Canterbury Centre, both centres repeating their performances of the previous year. The balance-sheet showed that the Association was in a very strong financial position. Although the amount of £10 in excess of the previous year was distributed amongst the Centres,, the balance to the credit of the competitive account amounted to £53 15s 3d. The Oversesa Representation Fund had increased from £9 13e to £34 & Cd and in the near future would undoubtedly enable the Council to considerably extend its sphere'of action. . The chiL-man in moving the adoption of the report and baisiioe-sheet, said he wish«f io record the good services cf the retiring delegates. If the incoming members of tho Council cciuld show a similar record for their term of office, then tho sport would be greatly benefited. The report was adopted. The following officers were elected:—President, Mr G. Harris- secretary and treasurer, Mr P. X. Rundle; auditor, Mr R. O..Duncan; aelegitee to Olympic Conncil. Messrs H. S. Hil snd Cha*. Collier.
