ASHBURTON ITEMS.

At a meeting of the committee of the Ashburton A. and P. Association yesterday afternoon the Chairman remarked that some of the "specials" ■who had gone from Ashburton to assist in keeping the port open during the strike, had now returned to their homes, and he asked for volunteers to go and fill tho places of those who had returned. It is expected that a fresh contingent will leave for Christchurch this (Wednesday) afternoon. There was a great rush for a consignment of sugar which arrived in Ashburton from Timaxu on Monday, and one firm disposed of six tons during the day.
