Mr Hugo Friedlander (Ashburton) arrived in Christchurch last eveuing. The Rev. M. Ings went north last night. Captain H. H. Sargoant, acting harbourmaster, has been appointed harbourmaster at Auckland. Sir George Clifford and Sir George McLean went north by last evening's ferry steamer. The Hon. Sir Charles . Bowen, M.L.C, was a passeneer for Wellington last night by the Wahine. The Hon. James Allen returned from Donedin last night, and went on to Wellington by the ferry steamer. The Hon. G. J. Smith, the Hon. C. A. C. Hardy, and tho Hon. E. C. J. Stevens, left for Wellington last night. Mr C. Holdsworth, general manager for the Union Steam Ship Company, returned from the north by th 9 Wahine yesterday. Canon Garland and Superintendent Hugo, inspector of fire brigades arrived yesterday morning from Wellington. The Rev. Keith Ewan has resigned from the pastorate of the Baptist Church at Gisborne, and will proceed to England. Messrs W- ■Nosworthy.G. J. Anderson, G. M. Thomson, L. M. lsitt, Y. O. Webb, and J: Robertson, M.P.'s, returned to Wellington by the TValuno last evening. Lieutenant Cuthbert Coppmger, R.N "formerly of H.M. ships Pioneer and Pyramus, is at present a course of instruction m H-M S Dryad Navigation School at Portsmouth.

Mrs Mackenzie Gibson, who has resigned in consequence of leaving the district to take up her residence in Sumner, was presented by the members with a silver tea and coffco service, as a small token of appreciation of her invaluable services for the past fifteen years. The presentation was made by 'Mrs Michael Studliolme, the president. Miss Gibson wag tho recipient of a present from St. Augustine's Sundayschool, on severing her connexion with it.
A pleasing ceremony attended tho conclusion of morning school at the Otago Boys' School #on Friday, when the boys assombwl in the school hall to bid farewell to Mr J. G. Fullarton, who has resigned from the staff to enter unmi fruit farming at Havelock, Hawkas Bay. The rector (Mr Morrnll) nlluded to tho good work done By Mr Ftillarton during his ten years' service at the school, and expressed the unanimous regret of masters and boys aliko at his departure, ami their hearty wishes for his success in his new career.
