PAPARUA.
The adjourned annual meeting of the Paparua Coanty Council was new. m the county office, i>ockburn, on. Monday, all the members being present. Mr James Leslie was, on the motion of Messrs fcitone and Watson, re-elected to the chair. Members were unanimous in their praise of the able manner in which Mr Leslie had conducted the business of the Council during the preceding twelve months. Mr Leslie, in expressing his appreciation, thanked tho members for tneir cordial co-opera-tion. The committee that was set up at last meeting to meet tho Halswell County Council reported that the two Councils had met on the bridge site, and had come to an agreement that_if tho bridge could bo reinstated for £70 the work would be gone on with. Mr Watson reported that the committee had met the assistant electrical engineer of the transmission lino on the Bealey road, and had discussed with him tho position of the poles through the riverbed, and Mr Birks agreed to place the poles on the road boundary, so as not to interfere with the present roadway. Messrs Harper, Son and Pascoe wrote stating that if the Council were satisfied that the treatment of runners on Watts road had been discontinued, they would mako application for the return of £100 deposit. Tho Waimairi County Council wrote asking that a conference to discuss the matter of boundary roads be held, and it was arranged to meet them on Monday next, at 10 a.m. The town clerk wroto with reference to the upkeep of the boundary roads. Mj- Carr reported that in company with the clerk he had attended the meeting of delegates to discuss the matter, and moved tho adoption of tho recommendations made by the delegates. This was seconded by Mr Watson, and on being put to tho Council was lost. The following resolution was moved by Mr Patorson and seconded by Mr * McCarthy :— "That this Council objects to pay anything towards the cost of the upkeep of the Park roads, as the said roads are several miles outside of the county boundaries." It was decided to ask the caretakers to supply the Council with a list of all the private Taces which are at present in a dirty state, and to give the owners fourteen days' notice to clean them, failing which legal proceedings will be at once taken. The clerk was instructed to sue all those land owners who had received notice to clear gorse from the roads and had failed to do so. It was decided to add 10 per cent, to all outstanding rates after January Ist, 1914. It was resolvod that the Council cease buying small birds. Tlio question of grading the Sandy Knolls road before shingling was left to Messrs Snndrey, Watson and the clerk. The clerk reported that the drain-donning gangs in the Ladbrooks riding had been doing very satisfactory work.
