BOROUGH COUNCILS.

STJMNER. The Sumner Borough Council met last night. Present —Tho Mayor (Mr G. W. C- Stnithson), Crs. G. Brewer, J. W. Lill, E. G. Wood, A. E. B. Rankin, S. M. Stuart, and C. A. C. Preston. The Mayor feelingly referred to the loss the- district had sustained by the death of the late Mr G. Laurenson, M.P., and proposed that a letter or sympathy be forwarded to the widow and family. The motion was carried in silence, all standing. The financial statement showed: —District fund account, dr. £3519 17s Id; temporary loans account, £1742; gasworks loan account, cr. £7212s 10d; gasworks revenue account, dr. £205 6s od; creek outlet loan account, cr. £1520 18s 4d. The Finance Committee recommended that the Band Rotunda be not let for political purposes, and that by-law No. 66, relating to meetings in public streets, bo.rigidly enforced. Adopted. The Works Committee recommended that three of the open drains on Scarborough road, together with the one in Heberden road, at Bell's baths, bo piped with 6in pipes, and the other three converted into plain open water tables; that wall of the Sumner drain at the outlet on the roadside bo raised; that a 3in water main he laid in Celia street, Redcliffs, the work to be carried oul as early as possible; that the matter of granting "permits to erect huts at Taylor's Mistake he left to tho discrtvtion of the Town Clerk. Adopted. The Town Clerk reported that since last meeting building permits to the value.of £1000 had been issued, making a total of £13,321 since April Ist last. The application of Messrs Fowler and Spencer to fence part of Monck's Bay Spur road was granted, snbiect to the usual conditions. Messrs Meares and Williams wrote agreeing to the Council's conditions regarding the Bello Vue Hill subdivision.
