MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. One first offender for drunkenness was.fined ss, in default M hours' imprisonment. Elizabeth Gordon Moor (Mr Donnelly), charged with a fiist breach of her prohibition order, was fined 10s, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. A MAINTENANCE CASE. Henrieita Sandford asked that -her daughter, aged sixteen, should contribute towards her maintenance.' In the witness-box complainant stated that her ago was forty-five, and that she was destitute. The Magistrate: You say you are destitute. Where is,your husband? — At Roto Roa. The Magistrate: Oh, he's an habitual drunkard.. How" many children have you:-—Eleven altogether. . "Why are you asking this child of sixteen to help towards your support? — The others give mc something. The witness then stated that a girl of eighteen, earning £1 a week, gave her 5s a week. Another girl, aged sixteen, earning'£l a week, also gave her 5s a week. The eldest girl, aged twenty-one, was married. The only girl who,was working, but gave her no money, was the daughter she was now asking' for maintenance. The ages of the other children were thirteen, twelve, ton, eight, seven, four, two The Magistrate: , That's enough in the meantime. • Witness went on to say that she received 10s a week charitable aid, or rations. The Mor'istrate: Who pays the rent? —The girls are supposed to do that. The Magistrate stated that the defen "ant had told him that she was wiling to nay something. "She's only sixteen," lie added, "but she's willing to. pay 4s a week- I shall make an order for payment of that amount." To the complainant: You must try ami do something ynursnlf. and get that of a husband of yours to do something. ' • Complainant: Shoot' him 1 AFFILIATION. George Hubbard (Mr Wright) wns adjudged tlie putative father of an illofritiTiint-e- child, was ordered to my 7s 6d a week and exnenses, nnd to find security in the sum of £300. Mr Leathern appeared for the complainant.
