HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, December 1. The following is the High Commissioner's cable dated London, November 29th (Note: quotations unless otherwise specified are the average market priceon spot). Mutton—The market is steady, but the demand is only moderate. Prices are firm because supplies will be retarded on account of the strike. Canterbury mutton is not quoted. North Island 4Jd. Lamb—Prices aro quoted firm. Canterbury, twos, sgd and as high as s"d for a very few selected lines. Many carcases of stale lamb aro being placod on the market.
Beef—The market is firm. New Zealand birds, 4Jd; fores, 3"rd; chilled j hinds, 4*d; fores, 4d. < River Plato shipments of meat re- j ceived in the United Kingdom during October were as follows:—London: mutton, 23,596 carcases; lamb, 5396 carcases; Liverpool! 48,271, 5694; Cardiff 8015. 283; Hull 1511, 384 ; Newcastle 13,567, nil; Ireland 2679, 6; totals 97,439, 11,763 (October 1912 247,073, 39,527). . Butter—Tho market is steady and prices are well maintained. There is no change in prices for Danish, Siberian, and Argentine. Australian 118s to 1245: New Zealand, 126s to 128s. The present price for unsaltod butter is 2s below the market, price for salted. . Cheese—Tho market is quiet but firm. Canadian, white 65s to 6Ss, coloured, 66s to 675; New Zealand, white, -As to 65s;' coloured, 65s to 65s 6d; Australian, 60s to 635. There is no change in prices for English and Dutch cheddars. Manila Hemp—During th© week the market has been quiet and steady, and closed dull. Fair current Manila £30, forward shipment £29 5s to £29 10s. The output from Manila for the week was 17,000 bales. .',.', New Zealand hemp was in fair demand, about the beginning of this week, but shippers have not met the market, and at present buyers will not pay more than within 5s to iOs of the last prices. Good to fair grade is pressed for salo at closing value. Forward shipments good to fair grade, £-7 12s 6d, fair grade, £25 ss. On spot nominal quotations, good to fair grade £28, fair grade £25 17s 6d. Sisal. —The position is unchanged. Wool.—The market remains firm, coarse crossbreds, all grades, selling.at prices equal-to the last sale's rates. The market for tops is unchanged, 36's low crossbreds, 15d; 40's low crossbreds, lojd; 44's, medium crossbreds, 15Jd; 50's half-breds, 19d; 56's quarterbreds, 21_d; 60's merinos, 27d.
Dalgoty and Company, Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their Loudon office, dated November 27th: —'"Wool sales continue firm, and lately reported rates are fully maintained. As compared with last sales, scoured faulty merino wools are rather lower, and good merino pieces father higher. American buyers are operating slightly, especially in slipes."
