Throughout tho period the berthage available has been occupied almost continuously. Now the •Harbour Board authorities are ablo to deal with vessels as they arrive, and conditions on the waterfront aro Tapidly drifting back to normal. Last Saturday sixteen vessels were at anchor. , On the Saturday previous there wore fifteen, and on Saturday, November Bth, 42. In addition to tho coastal fleet there sure fifteen vessels, at the wharves to-day, and indications are that for a week hence the berthage will ha fully"; occupied. ."...,■ >' Asked whether thero any congestion at all on the wharves or in the sheds, Mr Gunson replied: "We havo handled 33,000, tons of cargo inward., 10,000 tons outwards,' and about 11,000. tons of coastal cargo, within tho last three weeks, making an aggregate of 54.000 tons, but we have experienced no difficulty at all. .Transport facilities for the port have been excellent, and the wharves and sheds were never in better condition than they are today. What cargo remains in thesheds is all in splendid order, and under control of the respective companies." In addition to the cargo handled, which Mr Gunson stated compared very favourably with, other centres, the Harbourmaster has passed, through his hands 33 oversea vessels as well as 30 coastal vessels of one kind or another, working repeatedly.
