NOTES ON THE RACING. (SPECIAL TO "THE PRESS.") DUNEDIN, November 29. The rain which set in before the conclusion of yesterday's racing continued well into the night, but the morning broke fairly fine, and with the sun-a brisk southerly * breeze came-up. The track made a good recovery, but it was not at its best at the start-of the day's racing, and there was one perceptibly heavy patch in the back' stretch. 'Of eleven starters for the Second Amateur Handicap, Kinetic'was made a considerably better favourite' than Eios, none :of the others coming in* for much support. Kinetic' was unfortunate in breaking has hopples almost immediately after the start, and Eros ran to the front before they had gone half a mile, and thereafter' was. never, troubled, winning comfortably by ten lengths from Lily F. Eros is owned by. Mr •W. J. Morland. of Bakaia, who also owns Country "be11e.,;.. : -,- '~*,-. .■ ', .V....

The Advance, Handicap resulted in another Canterbury success. ■.. With a lap to go, the field was well bunched,- but Law. Chimes was then in front, and she went on for ah easy win from George M. Junr., who was. eight lengths in - front. of Fi ankton. The. lastnamed, who was favourite, showed paoo in the early stages, but did not go* steadily, and failed to see the journey out. • There were eleven starters for the. Suburban Handicap for unhoppled trotters, and Bell B. was mado a very strong favourite. Trugela began better than any of the others, and at one stage had a lead that promised an. easy win. However, Bell B. closed on him rapidly in the final stages, and though both horses broke on the post, the favourite _o\ up in time to win by a head: He was somewhat lucky in winning under -the circumstances, though but for breaking twice in the last lap ho wbu'd have won easily. ' Of the esght starters for the Forbury Cup Schoolgirl was made first favourite, with Ravenschild, Dr.. Chutney, Gianella, and Country Belle next best backed. Schoolgirl lost her chance at the start, and the race was practically confined to Country Belle and Gianella, who quickly drew clear of the rest of the field. . . Turning into the back stretch Country Belle had Gianella's measure, and drawing away' won comfortably.. Her time, 4min 37 4-sth sec, showed that there was not much wrong with the track, and it also showed that those behind her would have had : to do something very good to beat her. ■ •.

•The Southland mare, Bunemoa, and the Sydney-owned Lady Edna carried much more money than any of the others in the St. Clair Handicap.' Lady Edna was very slow to _ begin, otherwise she would almost certainly have won, for. she was going much faster than any. of the others' at the finish. Hinemoa was in front when the straight was reached, but was tiring badly, and Regina Belle caught her in the last fifty yards and beat her _by 'three lengths. Regina Belle crossed Hinemoa just after passing hor, and a meeting of tho stewards was held to consider tha incident, but the judge's placings were not altered.

Truganini was made favourite for the Victoria Handicap, but went very unsteadily, as did also King V. and Bcllflower. Tika was practically the only one in the race to go without a mistake, and ho won comfortably from Bcllflower, who caught King .V. in the' straight, and beat him for second place by eight leneths. ■ There were only five starters for the Electric Handicap, and once again Schoolgirl was mado favourite, though Emmelise received nearly as much suppoit. Gianella was called off for starting too soon, and Wilkie, beginning we'l, made the early running, but waa soon overhauled by Schoolgirl, and two furlongs from home Wilkie fell. With a Jap to go Schoolgirl was well clear of Boil Meta\ with Emmeline closing on the latter. Going along tho back stretch Emmeline passed Bell Metal, and pacing in briJliant style, commenced to overhaul tins leader. However, just as she reached the straight the scratch maro skipped, and Schoolgirl was able to hold her advantage to the fin.'sh.

Count-y Bcllo and Bright were withdrawn from tha final, event, the Recovery-Handicap, for which Franz Josef waa mado a very strong favourite, with Prince Wa:beck. and May- Dillon next besk support <_.. Both Fran_ Josef and May Dillon were unfortunate in brooking their hopples oariy in the race. Pine-rood, who was on the limit, was slow to begin, but quickly ran past his field. He was in front passing the stand, and thereafter was never seriously troubled, winning comfortably by four lengths from Regina _.He, after whom came Truth and Prince W-rbeck.
