THE MAHENO TO LEAVE.
VESSEL CLEARED BY THE CUSTOMS. HUNDREDS OF PASSENGERS. (By Cabl*.—Press Association.—Copyright) (Received November 28th, 12.13 a.m.) SYDNEY, November 27. Up to half-past ten the Maheno was still lying in the stream, but having been cleared by the Customs, it is expected she will sail direct for Auckland by midnight, or in the early hours of the morning. She is a very full ship as regards passengers. Some. four hundred, with their luggage, were taken aboard by lighters during the day, also a big mail, numbering 257 bags. Reticence is maintained regarding the constitution of the crew, which is described as a scratch one. It is understood it includes some twenty officers and engineers from - other boats of the Union Company which are laid up, while volunteers from amongst the Orama's immigrants have supplied firemen, greasers, and a few seamen. The Shipping Master went aboard at five o'clock and swore in the crew, but it was some hours later before the Customs Department granted a clearance. The Maheno is expected to make up the twenty-four hours which she is behind on schedule time.
Everything is quiet on the wharves. There was no attempt at interference, though a crowd watched the boats taking passengers and mails, aboard.
