MAHENO'S STEWARDS LEAVE.
MERCHANTS UNLOAD TOFUA. TREATMENT OF IMMIGRANTS. ALLEGATIONS DENIED. . (Received November 27th, 10 p.m.) SYDNEY, November 27. Tho Maheno's stewards, following the example of the crew, left the vessel this mornine. ■ Tho Wakatipu arrived to-day from Launceston with a cargo of oats. The wharf labourers are giving her a wide berth, and her cargo has not been touched. The merchants, most of whom are Chinese, supplied their own men for discharging tho Tofua's, bananas. The Union Company's staff of clerks are still engaged unloading, but the wharf clerks, who decided last night only to perform their regular duties, are not participating. Mr David Mills states that tho clerks have performed their duties well, and have shifted as much carno as the regular wharfmen. He denies the statement that the company has treated the Orama's immigrants harshly. Not only has it supplied them with deeping accommodation, But has offered them wharf labouring work at ordinary rates. This they declined, from which, he argues, that the men have iio great desire to earn money.
