ART SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Canterbury Art Society was held yesterday afternoon, the Hon. E. C. J. Stevens presiding over a large gathering of members. The President moved the adoption of the report and balance-sheet _ (which have already been published in our columns). ' . This was seconded by Mr E. C. Hme and carried. . • The following officers were elected: — President, Hon. E. C. J. Stevens (reelected); vice-president, Mr James Jamieson; ion. treasurer, Mr W. J. lloore; hoiK.auditor, Mr N. L. Macbeth; council, Messrs L. G. D. Acland, R. Wallwork, R. Herdman Smith, and E. C. Huie. ■■■;:• The President thanked the members for electing him unopposed to the presidency of the society. He looked upon it as a great honour to be elected, and he fully esteemed the renewed confidence accorded to him by the members. At the close of the'meeting Mr W. Recce proposed a vote of thanks to the president. Mr Stevens,* he said, had for many years taken a very keen interest in the affairs of the society, and in spite of his Parliamentary duties was always ready to come down from Wellington when wanted. The vote of thanks was carried by hearty acclamation". , Mr Stevens, in reply, said he could scarcely express his thanks for the cordinl reception given him.. He had certainly taken, and still took, the keenest interest in the work of the society.
