AT AUCKLAND.
RAISING THE BLOCKADE
(PBKSS ASSOCIATION' TELXGKAM.)
AUCKLAND, November 27
There was a big change on the waterfront this morning, the blockade by "specials" being confined to the entrance to each of the wharres. Vehicular traffic and pedestrians are permitted the free use of the whole of street, running the full length of the foreshore. "Work proceeded with all possible speed at the various jetties. The ranks of the special constables, both mounted and foot, are being thinned out considerably, as the activities of the port increase. Numbers of the former are leaving each day on their return to the country, and will continue to do so until the forco is reduced to the minimum needed to aid in the preservation of order. Many of the city "specials" are being allowed to go about their ordinary vocations during the day on condition that they sleep in camp overnight as a precaution against unusual happenings in the city. Yesterday, and again to-day, the trams were not run in Queen street. This was at the request of the authorities, who did not desire any congestion at the foot of Queen street. This embargo is now being raised, and the Tramway announces that the Queen street service will be resumed to-morrow. At the Supreme Court to-day, William Thos. Doyle, who liad been founi guilty of having gelignite cartridges in his possession with intent to commit a_ crime, came up for sentence. Mr Justice Edwards ordered prisoner to find two sureties of £60 each, for good behaviour and to keep the peace. Accused was remanded till December 19th.
