INDIGNATION IN INDIA.
RETALIATORY MEASURES URGED. ADDRESS TO THE VICEROY. CiSDJD CONDEMNATION OF AFRICAN POLICY. MADRAS, November 26. ■ Lori Hardinge, replying to an address, declared that the admissions my the official denial of ill-treatment of Indians were such, that if the South African Government desired to justify iteelf in the eyes of India and the world, it had no alternative but to grant a searching enquiry on whioh Indian interests should be represented. (Received November 27th, 10 p.ni.) MADRAS/ November 27. Replying to an addreea from the Indian Mercantile Association and the Madras Provincial Congress Committee, in which retaliatory measures were urged, Lord Hardinge recalled that * when the emigration of indentured toNatal was forbidden in 1911, the Natal planters begged for a reconsideration of the decision, thus indicating how hardly the prohibition hit 'them. Unfortunately jit was difficult to find - a means to make the South * African . Government seriously feel India's indignation. Lord Hardingo strongly expressed his personal sympathy with the Indiana' resistance of invidions and unjust laws. Though the Union. Government had categorically denied barbaric retaliatory 'measures, the denial contained admissions indicating that the' Government did Wot exercise wise discretion in dealing with the situation.
