WELLINGTON, November 26. Mr Robertson, member for Otalci, asked tho . Government to-day: "Whether it will take steps to ascertain if it is a fact that a few days after tho conference between the employers' representatives and the representatives of tho Federation of Labour, presided over by the Prime - Minister on Tuesday, October 28th, tho representatives of the shipping companies concerned were agreeable to the discussion of a settlement on. the basis of a proposal previously submitted by them at the said conference, which proposal has since been offered, and is still offered, by the Federation of Labour as a basis of settlement, and.that tho representatives of the Merchants' Association in Wellington Intimidated the shipping companies into withdrawing this offer by threatening to fix tip freight contracts with an outside shipping company." : Mr Massey replied l that an unsolicited communication had been received from the Merchants' Association stating that the allegations had no foundation in fact.
