A BOY BEFORE THE COURT.
In connexion with the strike among the newsboys at Lyttelton tho police brought a charge against a lad for having taken a quantity of papers from another lad, and assaulting him. Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., heard the case at a sitting of .the Juvenile Court at Lyttelton j'esterday morning. Senior-Sergeant Ryan stated that the boy took the papers and handed them to another lad, who tore them to pieces, scattering the pieces over the etreet. The boy's mother stated that tho lad was led away by a number of others, who had done quite as much mischief as her boy. ' • : ■ The Magistrate, addressing the boy, who was in a tearful condition, told him that he had no right to prevent other boys from selling papers, if they were willing. His Worship intended to deal with strike cases severely, but as the boy did not realise his act, he would be discharged.
