Tho first wool sale of the 1913-14 season took placo at tho Town Hall this morning, a large bench of English, Continental, and American buyers being present. The* total offerings were approximately 7000 bales, as compared with 8300 for the first sale of last eeason. Although the wool was, generally speaking, in good condition, pricos underwent an all-round fall of lid to 2d per pound, as compared with the opening prices a year ago. Fine crossbreds realised 10 Jd to lid, while an occasional lot of exceptional quality brought 12d to I2*d. Medium croSsbreds sold at BJd to 9d, while dingy lots went for 7|d to Bd, pieces for s£d to 6ja. In its official report the Brokers' Association gives the total as 6696 bales. It also states that, taking the catalogue as a whole, tho quality was not up to tho standard of tne opening sale last season, a larre portion of the northern clip suffering from tenderness?, and the whole offering being heavy in condition. Finer wools, suitable for America, underwent a drop of Id to SJd per P"Und. Coarse went down fully i<l to l<l. and very dinjry wool dropped Id.
