Passengers by the first express from ChristcTiurch to-day will reach Tiraaru in ample time for the racing, and to-morrow there will be a special train-leaving ■Christchurcb at 8.5 ai.m. and returning.from Timarii at 6.45 p.m. ..■■■•■"■ Tho Takapuna Jockey Club's Spring Meeting opens to-day. . Owing to illness the Riccarton trainer, W.C Clarke, has,had to give up work, and in consequence Mr D. RutherforH's horses have been thrown put of training, and -will bo sent home to their" owner's station at Leslie Hills. : Mr F. E. Shaw has- placed his gelding Gnome tomporarilv with W.Bnsh, who is acting under Clarke's instructions until fresh arrangements are made. . • Some weeks ago Brown Trout received a kick which fractured one of his forelegs near tho knee.
