WELLINGTON, November 23. ■ A firo started this" evening in the ■upholstery workroom on tho third floor of' tho IXI.C, but the automatic sprinkler installed in iho premises proved effective, and when the Brigade arrived their services were not needed. A few rolls of carpet were charred. The building ; is valued at £30,000, and ~the stook ■at £60,000. The insurances are held in practically all the offices in Wellington.

The house was insured for £500 in the Liverpool and London and Globe office, and the furniture for £220 in the London and Lancashire, office. '
