AT LYTTELTON.
ARRIVAL OF H.M.S. PSYCHE.
Lyttelton yesterday was simmering with suppressed excitement and all kinds of rumours were afloat. A holiday-quiet reigned along the waterfront, but on all sides the opinion was expressed that "something was bound to happen soon." Early visitors in Port yesterday witnessed the arrival of H.M.S. Psyche from Wellington. The little, greypainted warship came into Port shortly before 7 o'clock, aud, assisted te her berth by tbe Harbour Board tug Lyttelton, moored on the west side of No. 3 wharf about 7.45 a.m. As soon as the ship was made fast, a sentry with rifle and fixed bayonet was stationed on the
wharf, aud challenged any person who camo near the -hip. By instructions from the commander of the Psyche, the wharf was cleared of trucks during tho morning. The future movements of the warship are uncertain, but it is understood that she will remain at Lyttelton until to-morrow, if not longer. H.M.S. Pyramus, which left Auckland shortly' after midnight' on Saturday, and which was reported to be bound to Lyttelton, arrived at Wellington at 12.30 p.m. yesterday, after a fast passage of 36\ hours. The vessel has called at Wellington for stores. THE DORSET DISCHARGING. The Federal-Shire line steamer Dorset resumed discharging operations at eight o'clock yesterday morning, and good work was done by her crew, who were handling the cargo in the holds and working tne winches, the permanent railway men receiving the cargo in the trucks". Coaling from the Blackball Coal Company's hulk Wai-iti was- also proceeded with, the engineers and firemen of the Dorset working the coal into the bunkers. It is expected that the Dorset will sail to-morrow for Dunedin, where she will land the balance of her cargo from West of England ports, after which she will proceed to Australia to load for England. It is stated that whilo in New Zealand waters the Dorset will work cargo with her crew only, as it is feared that she would be "Tield up" in Australia if outside labour were employed.
