A NARROW ESCAPE.
(Received November 24th, 10.20 p.m.) GIBRALTAR, November 24. The battleship Lord Nelson narrowly escaped destruction. An overturned candle ignited some oakum, and the fire spread to the magazine, which was flooded. Tlie vessel was -unk six feet beforo tho outbreak was subdued. The Lord Nelson belongs to a class of two vessels—the other being tho Agamemnon—which are the most powerful of the pre-Dreadnouchfc vessels. They are not greatly inferior to the earlier ships of the Dreadnought type. They havo a displacement of 10,500 tons, and carry fourteen big guns, four 12-inch and ten 9-2-inch. The Lord Nelson was completed in 1908 at a cost of ._1,654,,000.
