BOROUGH COUNCILS.
EANGIORA. The monthly nieetiiig of the Ranporn Borough Council was held on Friday evening. Present—The Mayor (Mr J. Sansom), Councillors Boyd, Blackett, Jennings. Lane, McGruer, Sutherland, Wright and "Walker. A reply was roceivea from tho sanitary insx>ector as to his reason for refusing the erection of septic tanks in the borough, the chief reason being the objection of the overflow from tho tank being allowed to go into a sump which would pollute the use of water for domestic purposes. Notice was received that a re-valua-tion of the borough would be made for next year. The gas manager reported that the coal at.the works would only last a*bout six weeks, and that the street lamps had not been lit to economise, acd that all tho coke would be retained for firing at tho works. It was decided to charge all gas connexions outside the borough to the applicant. It was pointed out that the Sonthbrook connexion would take 17 years to pay for itself, and that on tho East Belt 11 years. A notice of motion to meet fortnightly was negatived. Councillors Boyd, Sutherland and Jennings were appointed a Building Committee to deal with applications. Tho financial statement was:— Receipts. £S8 11s, expenditure £101 8s 9d, debit balance at bank £333 os Id. Gas account:. Receipts £IG9 4s, expenditure £96 16s 7d. It was decided to consider the employees' hours at the next meeting, and the clerk was granted a fortnight's leave. It was decided to ask the townspeople to have a whole day's holiday on tho occasion of tho Friendly Societies' outing.
