THE REFORM CANDIDATE. MR M. J. MILLER TO STAND. (fpjtnuii to "the »bksb."> WELLINGTON, November. 23. Mr M. J. Miller,'.who has been Mayor of Lyttelton on several occasions, will be tho Government candidate for the Lyttelton seat. Tho motion for the issue of the writ will probably be,moved in tho House by tho Primo Minister to-morrow.
Mr M. J. Miller, who is to be the Government candidate for - the • Lyttelton seat, is, very popular with all'clasee* in the Port. JbL« is engaged in the business of shipwright, the. control of wtiicii ho took over from hid father some ten years ago. Mr Miller hi* been on tnreo occasions Mayor of Lj*" tehon, and has had a good deal to <a> with municipal atfairs in the boroiijfß' He took a prominent part in tho draiUage scheme, and was tho initiator W the Diamond Harbour proposal for the establishment of a suburb to Lyttelton on tho other side of the harbour. Mr Miller is a member of tho Lytteltoa Harbour Board, on which he has sat lot the past three or four years.
In the event of the Lyttelton byelection taking place before Christinas-— and there is, apparently,'every protwibility that it will—those persons who have taken up their residence ** Lytr telton since last general election shouW take the earliest possible opportunity to get their names on the roll. Mr W T. -Mills, organiser of too Social Democratic Party, arrived in Christchurch on Saturday. His business includes matters connected with the selection of a Social Democratic candidate for the Lyttelton seal. On the- Woolston Recreation g;<otina yesterday afternoon a meeting was ne»« under the auspices of tneSSo**"f o**"o**"0**" Democratic Party. There was a l«g» attendance. Speeches were «f a °f?f Messrs J. McCombs, H. A. v CtoP»J» and W. T. Milk, dealing with the• Wγ election.
