Miller,'.who has been Mayor of Lyttelton on several occasions, will be tho Government candidate for the Lyttelton seat. Tho motion for the issue of the writ will probably be,moved in tho House by tho Primo Minister to-morrow.

Mr M. J. Miller, who is to be the Government candidate for - the • Lyttelton seat, is, very popular with all'clasee* in the Port. Mr Miller is a member of tho Lytteltoa Harbour Board, on which he has sat lot the past three or four years.

In the event of the Lyttelton byelection taking place before Christinas-— and there is, apparently,'every protwibility that it will—those persons who have taken up their residence ** Lytr telton since last general election shouW take the earliest possible opportunity to get their names on the roll. Mr W T. -Mills, organiser of too Social Democratic Party, arrived in Christchurch on Saturday. His business includes matters connected with the selection of a Social Democratic candidate for the Lyttelton seal.
