METHODIST CHURCH.
ORPHANAGE AND CHILDREN'S HOME. Arrangements are being matured for the opening of a Methodist Orphanage and Children's Home for the South Island. A committee has been at work for some time and is now able to make definite announcements with regard to the arrangements for the commencement of the work. The rommittee has purchased a very -valuable property from Mr M. J. Burke situated at Harewood road, Papanui, md known as "Waitohi," consisting of nearly five acres of land forming a complete block bounded by four streets together with a comparatively new thirteen-roomed house with every convenience. The grounds aro well laid out in garden and' lawns with ornamental trees. The place is almost ideal for tbe purpose of a Children's Home.
Sister Mabel, late lady superintendent of the Methodist Deaconess House, Christchurch, and Deaconess of tho Durham street church has been appointed Sister: in charge. The committee has'been exceedingly fortunate _ in securing such a capable and .experienced worker to undertake the management. Money is being freely contributed from every part of the South Island, and it is hoped to raise the whole of the purchase money by 1915. The opening will take place early in March next year. Next week a similar home will be opened in connexion with the Auckland Methodist Church. A splendid property valued at £3000 has been presented by anonymous donors for this purpose, together with £100 a year for three years towards maintenance.
