REFERENCES IN PARLIAMENT.
SUGGESTED NO-OONFIDENCE
(SPKCTAL TO "THE PRESS.")
WELLINGTON, November 20.
In the House of Representatives this afternoon Mr Payne (who is not taken seriously) gave notice to move: —"That in view of the apathy and indifference of the Government in connexion with the present industrial crisis, and its total incapacity to deal with the situation, whereby thousands of peoplo are being brought to the verge of ruin, the laouso.no longer has any confidence in the capacity of the Government to administer the-affairs..of the country." When this motion was read out, the Prime Minister laughingly rose and asked the Leader of the Opposition if he had been consulted about this motion, and whether he approved of it. Sir Joseph Ward said that he had not heard of tho proposal directly <jr indirectly. He was not expected, he said with a glance at Mr Payne, to bo responsible for. any action, on the part of that hon. gentleman.
