WELLINGTON'S COAL SUPPLY

ANXIETY RELIEVED

(PRESS ASSOCIATION' TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, November 20.

Tho steamers Pukaki and Wairuna began unloading coal to-day i>t tho Railway Wharf. The former steamer has 573 tons of West Coast coal to discharge, and the Wairuna about 4000 tons from Newcastle., From this vessel before the strike began some 1400 tons were discharged. The coal is being unloaded into hulks for bunkering, and is also being distributed in the city. Tho carting of. coal from the Railway Wharf was commenced to-day, the first few draylqads for private yards were accompanied by escorts of four mounted ; 'specials," but so quiet-and uneventful wore the carters' journeys fthat after a few trips tho carts proceeded on their way without any protection. The City" Council has secured 1000 tons of coal, which, in addition to the stock in hand, will ensure continuation of tho lighting, tramway," and other services. Tho coal was obtained through the Gas Company generously foregoing its claim on the cargo. The Mayor highly praises tho publicspiritedness of the Gas Company in waiving its claim in favour of the city, though tho municipality is a competitor in lighting, heating, and power.
