ATTEMPTED INTIMIDATION.
A correspondent informs us that about 9:30 on Wednesday morning, when some of tho . poles from the steamer Northern had been removed by tho carters from the Waltham siding, a dozen men from Lyttolton entered tho yard in search,of the men who unloaded tho polos, but who happened to .- bo away at the. time. Not finding the men there, they were ordered off the . ground by a railway official. They . r.boyed the order, but took up tncar position at each gate. In the meantime the telephone had been called into requisition, and two mounted , troopers, a • motor-car containing police, and several men on bicycles and on foot soon made ■ their appearance. This damped the ardour of the visitors, «<rho, retreating in good order, walked into town via. Madras street and Latiroer 6quaro.
