DEPOT TO BE OPENED.
The ChrisU-hurch Strike Committee has decided to open tho depot for thf> receipt and distribution of provisions for the .strikers and their families. The - shop, which is situated in Manchester street south, will bo opened either today or on Monday, tho receipt r of the Roods which havo been offered being the determining factor. Tho services of n competent Rrqcer have been secured, and also those of two business men who will act as managers .and purchasing agent*. Tho committee nas Riven instructions that 100 tons of potatoes aro to bo got. A Southbridg* sympathiser has offered to supply "a, few trucks" of potatoes and also sixty -lib loaves por week. In addition, offers to supply 160 41b loaves of bread weekly havo been received and accepted. Jtany dairy-farmers in the vicinity of Christy church' have offered to Mipply quantities of milk, aggregating 50 gallonsdaily, if cans aro provided, and the Tinsmiths' Union have undertaken to . find these. Another 20 gallons daily have been promised. The offers of milk havo boen made by dairy-farmers in tbo vicinity of the city, m tho Kaiapoi and other districts. ; ■ As the result of a secret fcallot by tho members of the Bootmakers' Union that ■'. organisation, by 263 votes to 60. docided to vote £150 to the strike fund. ' The sum of £25 voted by tho Painters' , Union has been received. • ' A permanent committee to deal with strike matters in Christchurch has boen set up, and it will meet daily to deal with questions arising oat of tho strike. Mr James Thorn is to conduct a week's campaign in the country tricts next week, and an advanoe guard will make preliminary arrangements in. tho centres at which meetings aro to be hold.
