MAYOR OF LYTTELTON'S CALL.
At the Courthouse, Christchurch, yesterday evening close upon 150 men who desired to offer their services as special constables were duly sworn in. The majority appeared to be clerks, and all seenved very keen.
The Mayor of Lytteltou, following tho example of the Mayor of Christchxrrch, is advertising for persons willing to act. Mi special constablroi to protect law-abiding persons And maintain tbe peace of the port. Those who desire to act as special constables can be sworn in at the Courthouse, Christchurcb. at 9.30 a.m. and noon to-day.
"Specials" will receive payment at tbe rate of 10s nor day "and found."
Sixty special constables from South Canterbury are to leave Timaru for Christchurch to-day.
