ASHBURTON.
The Ashburton Borough School held its annual picnic at Timaru yesterday, in ideal weather. A special train, consisting of nineteen carriages, left Ashburton at 8 a.m. In addition to tho Borough, the Winchmoro School children joined the excursion at Ashburton, while the Hinds' children wore pickel up en route. The Ashburton Bowling Club cent a strong team down to play a match with the Park (Timaru) Club, and the Croquet Club also had a team on the train. On arrival at Timaru the excursionists at once made for Caroline Bay, where hot water and milk was provided. The train returned to Ashburton shortly after 8 p.m. Mr Arthur Cambridge, who has been transferred from the Ashburton branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Cooperative Association to the Rangiora branch, was oh Wednesday evening the recipient of gifts from his follow employees. Mr W. G. Roberts, local manager, on behalf of the members of the various departments, presented Mr Cambridge with a carved silver-mou,nted bread board and hall clock, and from the hardware department with a set of butter knives.
