AUCKLAND, November 10What appears to havo been a deliberate attempt to bum Campbell and Ehreufried's malt houso at Newmarket occurred last night at 7.45. Th© woodwork of tho kiln was found to have been ignited. The fire brigade was called, and the flames were extinguished. After the brigade left another outbreak wns discovered among sacks of clinker, 20 yards from the previous outbreak. Tnis having been extinguished, the police were called, and discovered that the building had been visited surreptitiously, entrance being gained by tho removal of the wire netting from the windows left open to allow the malt to dry. The damage is trivial, but in the room over the second fire £3000 worth of malt is stored.
