WELLINGTON DRIVERS
(special to "the press.") WELLINGTON, November 19. There is a general steady improve-
ment in the position of the c *l r ?& trade in Wellington. Most of the firms of carriers aro receiving numerous applications for employment from competent drivers in town and country. On the whole the men employed aro doing the work satisfactorily, and are rapidly learning the run of the ropes. As the business increases the firms propose to put on more carts, and several of them expect to have their plant in full workins by next week. Employers are not anxious to fill all the positions at once. as they are trying to keep billets open for some of the old hands, and as an undertaking (it is understood) has been given"that men who are engaged now will be given preference later, old drivers who do not return will be out of their jobs. Many of tho old hands have made it plain that were it not for intimidation they would be back at work at once, as they are thoroughly tired of the strike.
