MEETING OF STRIKE COMMITTEE.
The Christchuich Strike Committee met on Tuesday night. The Timaru branch of the Canterbury Brick, Pottery and Pipcmakers' Union subscribed £2 2s towards the Striko Fund. A deputation of six was appointed to wait on unions during the week to enlist their sympathy and support. Mr L. R. Wilson, in reporting on his visit to Timaru, Stated that almost all the members of tho Waterside Workers' Union at that port were being employed on the wharves there. Mr J. Thorn was appointed to visit South Canterbury during the coming week, and is to hold meetings in Timaru, Waimate, Temuka, and other centres. The Tinsmiths' Union wrote offering to provide, free of cost? any necessary tinware required by strikers' families. Arrangements were made for public meetings at tho band rotunda, Victoria square, on Friday and Saturday evenings. A delegate from Southbridgo was present, and roported having collected £20 for the Strike Fund, and stated that at the end of, the week he hoped to have a substantial amount to hand over to the committee. A sample of the batons being manufactured in Christchurch fOr special constables was produced. It was resolved that all unioas be asked to stand out, if necessary, for three months, if the troublo is not terminated honourably in the meantime. It was reported that one of the committee's pickets attended tho meeting of the.newly-formed Arbitration Union of Wharf Workers, and ho submitted a report.
