PROGRESS AT OTIRA.

Mr A. Dinnie ; the chief electrical engineer at Otira, arrived in church yesterday, after spending a fewdays' holiday in Wellington. In conversation with o "Press ,, reporter, ho stated that the electrical plant, driven b.,- a water intake at Holt's Creek, was now in working order, and iras being used with good results. The progress was about 72ft per week. The full length of penetration is now between 28 and 29 chains. The concrete mixing plant will probably be working now, and blocks will be made for the tunnel lining. The 'Sridening out" process should be commenced very shortly. Mr Dinnie leaves for Otira to-morrow.
